Experience Belize on Your Next Vacation

Though Belize is located in Central America and bordered by Mexico and Guatemala, it is culturally and historically a ‘West Indian’ country. English is the official Language though you’ll hear a lot of Spanish being spoken as well.

The Sites

The Mayan Temples
It’s hard to go to Belize and NOT see a Mayan ruin. They may not be as extensively excavated as those in their neighboring countries but they’re breathtaking all the same.
The largest jade carving in the area is also housed in Brazil. Discovered in 1968 in the Altun Ha ruin in northern Belize, the carving depicts the Mayan sun god Kinich Ahau.

Blue Hole National Park
If you are an avid hiker then you will enjoy the various trails that run through this park. You can hire a guide or go alone. There are caves to explore as well as creeks to splash through and if you keep an eye open you will probably spot one of the many indigenous birds.

The Belize Barrier Reef

Spanning 185 miles of the Belizean coastline, this is an ideal spot for scuba diving. It has long been renowned as one of the most beautiful spots in the world and it is home to some of the largest midnight parrot fish in the world!

The Garifuna People
Originally from St. Vincent, the Garinagu (the language is called Garifuna) people were expelled from the island in the late 18th century and eventually made their way to Central America and then Belize. The story goes that a slave ship sank off the coast of the island in the 17th century and the slaves swam onto the shore and integrated into the local Carib population. Theirs is a unique culture, and one to not be missed.
